In the moment planning

We use a style of planning called 'in the moment planning, which has child led and child interests at the heart of the curriculum. Instead of a traditional long term planning of observation, reflection and planning, we do all this in the moment and instantly. It is based on the knowledge that children learn best when the planning is based off their current interests and to complete this in the moment captures that curiosity so we can build on it.

This means for the children that we work more closely with the children to observe an interest and extend upon it in the moment rather then following this interest and learning into following weeks. We use this to the enhance and build upon children's existing knowledge.

The learning environment is changed and adapted to maximise the areas of learning, it is also set up with the 7 areas of learning of birth to five curriculum with the children's group interests as a focus.

Each term every child will have a 'focus week' this is where a child will be focused on with their interests by their keyworker and areas set up and activities based on their interests to maximise the learning opportunities. we look for 'teachable moments' where the skilled practitioner will chose the right time to intervene and extend the learning teaching them a new skill.

The planning is completely child centred and we are moving away from lots of observations on tapestry to spend more time with the children and less on documentation. In the focus week you will receive more photos and observations of your children while we capture these teachable moments. Tapestry will be used for 'wow moments' new skills we've not previously seen. Observations sent home will be limited but we will be using this time to spend quality time with your children enhancing their learning and experiences here at Bizzy bears.
